THE MUSEUM OF LIES

A DEAD MAN. A HUMAN SKELETON. 500 STRANGE OBJECTS. And one very strange story. When a dead man is discovered inside a bizarre museum on New York's Upper West Side, the police have no idea who he is—or why his apartment is filled with hundreds of bizarre artifacts. To understand the museum, you have to understand Cary Scott. And to understand Cary Scott, you have to decide whether you believe him or not. The Museum of Lies is a darkly funny, wildly improbable novel about sex, shame, memory, identity—and the stories we create to make sense of our lives. Hunt is a masterful storyteller, escalating his protagonist's misadventures to the point of farcical truth ... A funny, dark, and deeply human novel about what shapes us as human beings. ... Online Book Club: "Hunt's writing ability is phenominal"

Online Book Club gives The Museum of Lies "five out of five stars" and says "Hunt’s writing ability is phenomenal. His writing is so inviting, witty, and well-written that I could feel every emotion that Cary felt. Being able to make your readers feel the emotions of your fictional characters is a gift." "Once I passed the halfway point of the book, I couldn’t put it down. After each memory of Cary’s ended, I had to keep reading to find out what happened to him. His childhood was so tragic and horrible (and somehow sprinkled with little bits of good luck—like writing a poem at 15 that gets picked up by a famous singer) that I couldn’t stop reading until I knew the ending." "I highly recommend this book to those who like funny, engaging stories that are, in essence, just very well-written." Bestsellers World: The Museum of Lies is "Terrific. Engaging."

Bestsellers World calls The Museum of Lies "an enjoyable (if somewhat unsettling) read that will leave you thinking back on your own life and wondering what about your existence you can prove." "The character work in The Museum of Lies is terrific. Hunt does a beautiful job of portraying Cary as a profoundly troubled man who is constantly looking to fix himself and is never satisfied with the results. He shows Cary at various points in his youth enduring significantly damaging forms of abuse and humiliation. While the severity of these traumas varies greatly, we see how even comparatively minor embarrassments can take their toll and contribute to the mental breakdown of a bright and promising child." "The Museum of Lies is a quick read that is portrayed more as a collection of vignettes with a common theme than a standard novel. The non-linear storytelling spanning decades is engaging as the reader is constantly bouncing back and forth between cause and effect...

Kirkus Reviews: "A masterful storyteller"

Kirkus Reviews calls The Museum of Lies "A funny, dark, and deeply human novel about what shapes us as human beings. "Leaping back and forth between childhood traumas and the yo-yo dieting and personal humiliations of his adulthood, Hunt’s novel follows Cary’s unlikely journey toward self-understanding via recovered memory therapy—though whether the memories he ends up recovering are true (and what they might mean for his sense of himself) is not so cut and dried. The writing is as psychologically acute as it is funny ..." "Hunt is a masterful storyteller, escalating his protagonist’s misadventures to the point of farcical truth. Cary feels just responsible enough for his predicaments to make him a compellingly tragic figure, someone whose larger-than-life problems feel both real and searingly relevant to the reader." Get a career in the film industry!

Get a paid job in the film industry -- learn continuity! The job of script supervisor is vital to every filmed project that has a script: i.e., movies, television shows, commercials, web series, animation, and short films. The script supervisor is the professional on set who makes sure that everything in the script gets filmed, and everything that gets filmed can be edited together seamlessly without continuity errors. This is one of the least understood disciplines of film, as well as one of the departments with the fewest amount of trained professionals available. Script supervisors are always in demand and jobs often go begging in this department because there are very few script supervisors in the world. Competition for jobs in this niche of the industry is VERY small.  I have been teaching film continuity for 15 years in Toronto, Canada, and London, England, and have written a comprehensive guide to getting started in the profession. Book Review: Globe and Mail

The Globe and Mail’s 8th annual selection of the 100 best and most influential books of 2005 CURRENT AFFAIRS & POLITICS The Politics of Bones: Dr. Owens Wiwa and the Struggle for Nigeria's Oil By J. Timothy Hunt McClelland & Stewart, 389 pages, $36.99 This is a skillfully written book with many strands: the politics of development in an oil-rich nation; the local practices of large multinational companies; the colourful but often violent recent history of Africa's most populous nation; and a story of personal tragedy, flight and survival. The book focuses on Owens Wiwa and his wife, Diana. Wiwa was the brother of Ken Saro-Wiwa, charismatic leader of the Ogoni people, hanged by Sani Abacha's regime in 1995 on murky charges of political murder. — David M. Malone.

Book Review: Quill & Quire

The Politics of Bones reviewed by Matthew Behrens Quill & Quire Magazine G-8 leaders and rock stars quick to deliver facile platitudes about the plight of Africa's poor would do well to read Toronto journalist J. Timothy Hunt 's account of Dr. Owens Wiwa's struggle for justice in Nigeria. Dr. Wiwa, though not as well known as his late brother, Ken Saro-Wiwa, nonetheless played a key role in the struggle of the minority Ogoni people against the environmental and human rights violations of Shell Oil and the Nigerian government in their homeland. Hunt's book reads like a fast-paced thriller as he dissects the Nigerian political environment of the past 40 years and the nonviolent struggle by the Wiwa family to expose and rectify numerous corporate and military abuses. The Wiwas rallied hundreds of thousands of people into political activism, and by doing so became public-enemy number one. The book is also an intensely personal story, one of a family growing up ...

Book Review: Vue Weekly

BLOOD FOR OIL By Minister Faust VUE WEEKLY, Edmonton, Alberta Canadian journalist J. Timothy Hunt recounts the story of Nigerian martyr Ken Saro-Wiwa’s 1995 oil-fueled execution through his brother Owens Wiwa in The Politics of Bones On November 10, 1995, Nigerian dictator and Shell Oil ally General Sani Abacha shocked the world by putting Ken Saro-Wiwa to death. Saro-Wiwa’s real crime—along with that of eight co-defendants also killed—was defending the rights of the Ogoni people to live free from their own government’s repression and Shell’s destruction and poisoning of their tiny commonwealth inside Africa’s most populous nation. The best known of the Ogoni martyrs, Saro-Wiwa had made a name for himself as a playwright, television personality and rights activist. But had history slipped down an alternate stream, Saro-Wiwa might have been joined in the death cell by a ninth co-defendant: his own brother, Dr. Owens Wiwa. Owens was born on the same day as his brother, 13 year...

Book Review: Now Magazine

Wiwa's courage The Politics of Bones by J. Timothy Hunt NOW Magazine, Nov 10, 2005 Judicial murder leaves powerful memories in the lands where it is committed. The legal lynching of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists stains the history of Nigeria like an oil slick. Saro-Wiwa, the politician who became famous writing sitcoms for Nigerian television, was hanged in 1995 for daring to stand up to the military junta and to Shell Oil, who had turned his homeland into a polluted wasteland while hoarding the profits. Beside Saro-Wiwa during much of the struggle was his quiet younger brother Owens Wiwa. Timothy Hunt's superb The Politics Of Bones tells the terrible, heroic story of the Ogoni resistance and the dramatic lives of Saro-Wiwa and his brother. It also gives a charming account of the Wiwa family and the close relationship between Ken and Owens, whose final separation is heartbreaking. Saro-Wiwa and the other Ogoni leaders were hanged on trumped-up charge...
